Lissa’s Budget Recovery Plan

Ok, no more messing around. Theres a new sheriff in town. I have been a frightful spendthrift. Yes I admit it, My name is Lissa and I am a Spendaholic. Half the battle is recognizing my problem. So this year I will(am) turn it all around.

I started in January by eliminating/reducing the needless fluff such as:
$300. monthly housekeeping service ( cleaning it myself)
$100. monthly hair appt (doing my own now)
$120. month nails (trade services now)
$450 duplicate rent payment (Shut down a location that was costing as much as I made to be there)
$100 month -reduced dog sitting (more time at home now)
$100 reduced gas (no traveling 100 miles a day to that other location)
$200 changed dog food from ultra expensive gourmet to moderate (doggies are not happy about this)

That’s over 1300$ I saved off the top- then I started journaling in Feb my expenditures and income to see how my money was going and coming. This is how it comes out:

Meals out, snacks, Groceries and toiletries is roughly $1600. a month Holy shit! too much
Auto expenses, gas, parking, tolls, insurance, lease payment maitenance – 1000$ Ouch!
Life insurance, RX’s, medical, dental – $375 oh well getting old …..
Dog sitter, pet insurance, pet meds and care- 450$ THEY’RE WORTH IT!
The Grouchy Bastard’s (husband) allowance- $250 He’s not.
Charities and Beauty- $400 Got to look good AND feel good.
Home improvements- $400 Everything has got to be beautiful.
Clothes, etc – $250 Averaged out over a year- equals one Louis Vuitton Handbag and a couple pair of pants and running shoes
Now this is just the personal expenses

Here’s the Plan that I have already started-
Reduced Car insurance by $400 per year by eliminating duplicate coverages on medical and rental. Yay!
Changed banks so I can do all transactions by internet – No fees Save on gas going to locations.
Cut credit card fees by 100$ per month by calling and negotiating.
Bringing meals to work reduce meals out. Buying less wine.
Promoting my home location to get more local clients to eventually close another rented location.
No more ultra expensive gourmet dog treats.
Selling some of my old Louis Vuitton bags and not buying any more (this year only)
Shopping for groceries at cheaper markets.
Started a serious savings account- Goal: to get 6 months of reserves saved up.

OK now I am journaling for March to see how these changes help me to save money and pay off debt. Yahoo!

PS March’s Budget plan sucked big time- somehow spent and extra $2000. April I SWEAR will be way better.
