Don’t bring guns into a knife fight

Okay Lissa, I can’t wait for the gun freaks to start pointing to today’s stabbing rampage at the school in Murrysville, Pennsylvania, and start saying, “See, it’s not the guns. People are just insane.”

While I won’t argue about the last part of that premise, I feel obliged to point out that if that student had had a gun, there would be 22 dead instead of 22 wounded, and we would never know what triggered the episode because the gunman would most likely be dead also.

Yes, people are crazy. Yes, we need better mental health care. But when you get right down to it, GUNS KILL PEOPLE. People hate people, people attack people, people stab people, but GUNS KILL PEOPLE. Where’s the argument? I DARE you!

In most states, it’s easier to get a license for your gun than for your dog.

My 9-year-old son keeps telling me, “it’s not fair.” He says this about everything, from being deprived of his recess to study for the FCAT exams to having to walk the dog when he comes home from school, in exchange for time on the computer.

Life is unfair. And people are irresponsible. You can’t just give everyone who wants one a gun. Sorry, but some people are stupid. Some people are ignorant. Some people are criminals, and some people are just plain evil.

Some people should never have kids. Some people should never have dogs. MOST PEOPLE SHOULD NEVER HAVE GUNS.

I agree. Licenses need to be issued after serious background and foreground checks before people have pets, children and guns!

Nope, can’t give everyone a gun, nor a car, nor a citizenship. Definitely!
